Tough times, but I'm still rockin'

It's been tough since I got back into town. Due to the recession it's been harder than I expected to get a job. I mean, I really thought that with my resume (experience) and my bilingual skills I would be able to find something almost immediately. Specially, since I'm not looking to do anything near to what I was previously doing. I have been applying to many many part-time positions all across town and I get the interview, but then I don't get the job. I know, that destiny has a plan for me, but I'm really struggling right now. Anyway, that being said I am terribly excited because I've been going to forty four for the last couple days now and I absolutely love it....everyone is so nice, warm and willing to help a struggling artist! Just like I remembered people in this wonderful state to be! I am learning so much...and I look forward to going there and if they'll allow me to, I would come in every single day until the day I die....

Also, I have to say, I had the chance to hang out with Matt (John's assistant) and he was a lot of fun! He knows so much! We walked around De Pere taking pictures of a few lucky people and I actually got some really good shots of the area.

I am really lucky that I've met so many wonderful people that allow me to ask questions and impose...which is what I feel like I'm doing most of the time. However, I have to think to myself that if I was imposing, someone would just tell me, so I shake off that feeling and continue asking questions. I'm also reading a photography book which helps me to be at least familiarized with some of the terms that are used. With the names of the equipment I learned while out with John and hanging out with Brenda and Cindy, I have composed a wish list that is fucking awesome and pricey as hell...but I can't wait to be able to afford all of it.

A Trip to the Farmer's Market

 

On a crisp Saturday morning, my husband and I decided to go to the farmers market in downtown Green Bay. Having previously spoken to Mark Wallace at the Snapfactory workshop and remembering his words .....go to a farmers market and take your camera (or something of the sort) I strapped on my canon and we took our leave. When we arrived it was nothing like I expected. It was in a parking lot behind a post office, but there was still a lot of people there. The excitement and anticipation of the many images and I could capture overcame me and I started skipping like a child. I turned my camera on and immediately I start seeing photo opportunities everywhere. I was finally happy....my husband by my side and people all around us. the scent of fresh fruits and greens, along with kiosks that served delicious meats mixed together and I knew that I was in a smaller, more down to earth version of heaven. Here are some of the shots that were taken that day. I feel that I am getting better the technical functions of my camera and I believe that I'm certainly on my way to further develop my critical eye.

After our wonderful saturday morning we decided to go the cemetery across the street from our house and take some more shots...I wanted to push my luck and  take some somber pictures to show my artistic range. Well, my camera definitely had a different idea as it decided to give me errors and not capturing the shots...I was very disappointed to say the least. So, I had to pack it up for the day and call Canon to see if they could provide me with a quick fix. I spoke to a representative that was able to walk me through "a" fix (not "the" fix) and my camera starting working again....but only for a few moments. Someone or something must've known I was having too much fun and although nothing is more worth it more than going through difficulties to get what you want, I resigned myself to put my camera away, contact the dealer and send it in to be repaired. Without a camera for two weeks....sucks!!! Just when I was starting to really really become frustrated I got a call from the dealer and woosh! I had a new camera!  I'm back in the game again!!

Not only are these pics (some of my favorites) posted here, I also have a full portfolio available through flickr.com. I am just beginning my journey in learning photography, but I feel like the more I pick up my camera the more comfortable I feel. I am also in the process of becoming more involved with the arts in my community. Since I am back in Green Bay (Yay!!) I have some connections to the artistic vibe, such as being in touch again with my talent agency "First Choice Talent" and they've already booked me on two separate jobs. I also took a deep breath and visited Forty Four, a studio that does food photography, portraits and product photography (exactly my interests). I have got to say I felt like a total amateur going into the set and just saying "I'm offering my services as a Photographer's Assistant....I know nothing!", but it worked because they called me a couple of weeks later and want to work with me and I'm super excited about that. I'll keep everyone posted about our upcoming project this weekend!!

The Dark Path

I walk along the path of life
uncertain of what lies ahead
memories crawl through my head
filling me with uncertainty

Still, I walk on, though I need rest
my body won't give in
to the possibility of death
I push on....

Along the way I find
that my heart falters
my skin cracks
my face is blank

I want to run
but I can't
tribulations follow me
as I slow to a halt
I fall to my knees, so tired,

I let them envail me

I find that the road continues
I am not done with my journey

Intro

Self Revolution is a place where art explodes in the form of blogs, poems and photography. Questions....answers, ramblings.....and madness. I'm currently finding my photographic style...so lots of experiments will be displayed. Please feel free to leave feedback or comments.
